The After Hours Daybed/Sofa Circa 1960's
A rare mid-century piece that works as a sofa by day and transforms into a generous double bed after dark.
Believed to date from the 1960s, this rare sofa daybed has been newly upholstered by Respect Your Elders. We chose a muted olive-green fabric reminiscent of the era, selected not only for its colour but also for its durability on a piece designed for double duty. Entirely new foam provides renewed comfort and support.
The original wooden frame and black metal back-supporting structure remain in their found condition, preserving the honest character and construction of the piece.
To convert it, the lower bed frame slides out smoothly on its original castors and slots securely into position, creating a sturdy double sleeping surface. The beautifully engineered metal support system remains visible beneath—a functional detail that gives the piece much of its industrial mid-century appeal.
Although its original maker and exact date are unknown, the low profile, warm timber, exposed mechanics and clever convertible construction suggest a possible 1960s origin.
A versatile vintage piece made for compact homes, studios, spare rooms—or anywhere that deserves furniture with a secret.
