Renting more than one piece? The delivery charges stay the same for items delivered together to the same address.

Rentals are available within Gauteng only. We do not offer rentals outside Gauteng.

Our vintage pieces have history. Please treat them with care so they can be enjoyed for years to come.

Condition on handoverEach piece will be photographed and its condition recorded before collection or delivery. Please inspect the furniture at handover and flag any existing marks or damage so these can be recorded. You will not be charged for pre-existing damage or fair wear and tear.

Your responsibilityYou are responsible for taking reasonable care of the furniture from handover until it is returned to, or collected by, Respect Your Elders. This includes its use by your guests, staff, contractors and anyone you allow to handle it.

You may be charged for loss or damage caused by misuse, negligent handling, failure to follow care instructions or a breach of these rental terms. You are not responsible for damage caused by our team.

Care & safe use

• Furniture is for indoor use unless we approve otherwise in writing.

• Keep pieces dry and away from rain, moisture, flames, heaters and prolonged direct sunlight.

• Avoid spills, smoking, sharp objects, body oils, makeup and materials that may stain or transfer colour.

• Do not stand, jump or climb on furniture, or exceed any stated capacity.

• Keep pets off rented furniture and supervise children around it.

• Do not drag furniture. Follow the handling instructions provided and use sufficient assistance when moving it.

• Do not apply cleaning products, attempt repairs, or attach tape, glue or decorations without written approval.

• Furniture must remain at the agreed venue within Gauteng unless relocation is approved in writing.

If a piece becomes unstable or appears unsafe, stop using it and contact us immediately.

Self-collection & transport

Please arrive with a suitable vehicle, protective coverings and appropriate securing equipment. Furniture must be protected from weather, dirt and movement during transit. We may postpone release if the proposed transport is unsuitable or likely to damage the piece.

Damage, loss or theft

Report any damage, loss or theft as soon as you become aware of it. Provide photographs and a brief explanation of what happened. Do not attempt to conceal damage or arrange repairs yourself.

Where you are responsible, charges will reflect reasonable, evidenced costs:

• Specialist cleaning where cleaning beyond normal rental use is necessary.

• Repairs or restoration where the item can reasonably be repaired.

• Reasonable replacement value where the item is lost, stolen or damaged beyond economical repair, taking its age, condition and comparable vintage value into account.

We will not charge both full replacement value and repair costs for the same loss.

Damage claims & deposits

We will inspect returned items and notify you promptly of any proposed claim, with photographs, an itemised explanation and supporting quotations or invoices. You will have an opportunity to review and respond before the claim is finalised.

Where a refundable security deposit applies, its amount and refund timeframe will be stated in your booking agreement. Any proposed deduction will be explained in writing. A deposit does not limit your liability for a valid claim exceeding that amount.

Ownership & return

All furniture remains the property of Respect Your Elders. Items may not be sold, sub-hired or transferred to another person. Please return them on the agreed date and make them accessible at the agreed collection time.

Your legal rights

Nothing in this policy removes your rights under applicable South African law or excludes liability that Respect Your Elders cannot lawfully exclude, including liability for gross negligence.
